Swingers View On Condoms In The Porn Industry

Yesterday a Los Angeles city council voted 9 to 1 to enforce condoms to be worn during porn shoots. Although this measure is enforced in Los Angeles, it does not pertain to other studios outside of the city.

The condom vote Tuesday marks a significant victory for the L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation. For years the L.A. based foundation has been rallying for performers to wear condoms and even to try and mandate the ordinance. In the past decade, porn shoots have been suspended several times following high-profile cases where porn performers have been infected with HIV.

Michael Weinstein, the president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation said “It’s a great day for the performers and safer sex in our society,”. For years lawmakers ignored or dismissed initiatives to crack down on condom use. Apparently the AIDS Healthcare Foundation garnered signatures of voters to pass an ordinance on the use of condoms. the ordinance actually goes a bit further, listen to this, the ordinance requires adult film producers when seeking a filming permit to:

  • Use Condoms During Filming
  • Pay a fee which would fund surprise inspections.

The proposed requirement would have targeted the multibillion-dollar porn industry centered in the San Fernando Valley. The city council members voted and approved the measure because it would have cost tax payers $4 million dollars to hold a special election.

Porn industry representatives were furious at the vote. Diane Duke of the lobbying group Free Speech Coalition said, “This is government overreach. It’s not about performer health and safety, it’s about government regulating what happens between consenting adults.”

I am curious to see the readers input and fellow swingers input on this issue. Do you think the porn industry in Los Angeles should be forced to wear condoms? Do you think that the city officials have gone too far? Or do you agree with this? Please leave a comment below thanks guys and gals.

To me, this is a very controversial topic. Having condoms is good for them to be protected, but for viewers is less estimulant.

I am a firm believer in condoms, but I prefer the porn I watch to be without condoms. That being said, I believe the counsel has the right to vote as they see fit. If their constituates disagee, they can vote them out, and if the porn makers don’t want to abide by the regulation, they can move to another city to make their films. At least now the actors know if are in a film in LA, they have something in place to help protect them against STDs other then after the fact testing.

Does this include condoms for fellatio? Does this mean that dental dams must be used for cunnilingus? We do not believe that any governing body has a right to mandate who wears a rubber. We believe that it is the sole discretion of the performers involved. We live in the age of the internet, with a plethora of information available at our fingertips. The performers know the risks when they decide to become involved in the adult industry. In our opinion, it is naive of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to believe that adults are getting their sexual information and education from porn. That would be akin to saying that you learned how to love solely from watching Romeo and Juliet. What a joke! Diane Duke made a valid point when she said “This is government overreach. It’s not about performer health and safety, it’s about government regulating what happens between consenting adults.” It is our honest, humble opinion that the answer to the std/AIDS problem will not come through laws and regulations; It will come from thorough education and the availability of information to make an informed decision. One would be inclined to think that the porn industry, as a whole, should step up and take the responsibility of prescreening their actors/actresses and then show a disclaimer at the start of the film stating that all performers have been tested and found to be free of any std’s before the filming of this movie. Thus, eliminating the “high-profile outbreaks” while practicing safer sex.

My husband and I have been swinging for several years and enjoy the lifestyle, and like to meet other couples and singles. We always use condoms when we swing with other couples.

We hook up with other swingers at a local swingers club in Mississauga called Jeanies Bar Bistro, and they give out free condoms there.
    Swingers for life!
