How To Become a Dominant in the BDSM Lifestyle

Dominant in the BDSM Lifestyle

“50 Shades of Grey” has made the BDSM lifestyle more mainstream. As such, more people are exploring their sexuality and coming clean about their kinks and fetishes. If you have always wanted to be a dominant in the BDSM lifestyle, you may wonder what steps you need to take to make this happen. Here are a few of the steps you need to follow to become a dominant in this lifestyle.

Determine What Kinks and Fetishes You Want to Explore

Before you can become a dominant in the BDSM lifestyle, you need to take some time to explore your own sexuality and what your kinks and fetishes are. Not everyone likes the same things or is turned on by the same things. You need to have a firm grasp on what turns you on and what kinks and fetishes you want to explore, participate in or try. This will help guide you toward a partner who wants the same and is willing to partake in what you want. If you do not know what you want, you are not in a position to be a dom yet.

Find a Sub

Once you know what you sexually want and what realms you want to explore, you need to find a sub. A sub is a submissive partner who wants to take instructions from a dom, or dominant. However, just because someone is submissive does not mean they are sexually into the kinks and fetishes you are. This is why you want to find a partner who is interested in exploring the same things you are. Once you have found the right partner, you likely both need to set up ground rules. You need to clearly lay out the rules for what you expect. And a sub is also able to set their own ground rules with what they are willing to do and not do, or setting up a safe word that lets you know they do not feel comfortable and want to stop.

Be Assertive, In Charge and Dominant

Once you have found a sub and set the ground rules, it is time to play. As you do so, you need to assume the role of a true dominant. Be assertive, be in charge and be a boss. If you falter, let your guard down or ask your sub to do something rather than demand it, you are breaking character and are not a true dom. It may take some practice if you are a shy or weaker personality, but the more comfortable you get and the more used to your role you get, the more dominant you will become.
